S.M.O.E LEVEL FACTOR (EPIK SEOUL)

SMOE ELIGIBILITY and REMUNERATION

Level H: 1.8 million won per month

l  A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline

Level G: 2.0 million won per month

One of the following:

l  A Bachelor’s degree in Education

l  A Bachelor’s degree in English, English Education, English Literature, or Linguistics

l  A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline plus one (1) full year of teaching English

l  A Master’s degree in any discipline

l  A currently valid elementary or secondary teacher’s certification

l  A TESOL/TEFL or English Teaching Certificate comprised of a minimum of 100 course hours

Level F: 2.2 million won per month

One of the following:

l  A Master’s degree in Education

l  A teacher’s certification with a specialization in English Education

l  One of the Level G requirements plus one (1) full year of teaching English

Level E: 2.3 million won per month

One of the following:

l  A Master's degree in TESOL/TEFL or in English Education

l  One of the Level G requirements plus two (2) full years of teaching English

l  Employed as Level F at the SMOE for one (1) full year

Level D: 2.4 million won per month

One of the following:

l  A Bachelor’s degree in English Education plus three (3) full years of teaching English

l  A Master’s degree in TESOL/TEFL or in English Education plus one (1) full year of teaching English

l  A teacher’s certification with a specialization in English Education plus two (2) full years of teaching English

l  Employed as Level E at the SMOE for one (1) full year

Level C: 2.5 million won per month

One of the following:

l  A Master’s degree in TESOL/TEFL or in English Education plus two (2) full years of teaching English

l  A teacher’s certification with a specialization in English Education plus three (3) full years of teaching English

l  Employed as Level D at the SMOE for two (2) full years

Level B: 2.6 million won per month

One of the following:

l  A Master’s degree in TESOL/TEFL or in English Education plus three (3) full years of teaching English

l  A recommendation by the superintendent or school principal of a current school (public or private) where applicant has taught English (at the same school) for at least three (3) full years

l  Employed as Level D at the SMOE for three (3) full years

Level A: 2.7 million won per month

One of the following:

l  A Master’s degree in TESOL/TEFL or in English Education plus four (4) full years of teaching English

l  A recommendation by the superintendent or school principal of a current school (public or private) where applicant has taught English (at the same school) for at least four (4) full years

Level S: 3.0 million won per month

One of the following:

l  A Master’s degree in TESOL/TEFL or in English Education plus seven (7) full years of teaching English

l  A recommendation by the superintendent or school principal of a current school (public or private) where applicant has taught English (at the same school) for at least seven (7) full years

l  Be hired to work as a curriculum developer with Doctoral degree in TESOL/TEFL or in English Education

SMOE is not accepting level H teachers since 2009 due to high competition of applicants. SMOE has variety of factors that decide teacher's salary level and teacher must complete 100 hrs TESOL certificate before starting SMOE employment for each semester.

SMOE is only MOE (Metropolitan Office of Education) that applying alphabetic salary level when other POE (Provincial Office of Education and MOE (Metropolitan Office of Education) is using numeric salary level such as level 1~3.

SMOE will not accept full time experience unless you have full time English subject teaching experience and you must submit proof of experience. You can find a sample letter for verifying your full time teaching experience on "How to fill out SMOE application form".

SMOE is only counting half period of full time teaching experience if you taught different subject not "English subject"
